The first photo is from the bridge where Dewey commanded the squadron. Gridley apparently commanded the ship from the conn. I wish my den was as nicely paneled as the pilot house in the third shot. Last is a view aft from bridge deck. |

The first shot shows mechanical steering linkage connected to wheel in conn, to the left, and pilot house, above. Second photo shows aft steering on the main deck. All three positions were hydraulically linked to the rudder. Third photo is of steam powered winch used in conjunction with large davits. The next is of a rack that obviously organized signal flags. The last is of the ship's bell. |
